OBITUARY FROM HOLMAN FUNERAL HOME OF OZARK

Mr. Harold Loyd Marsh of Ozark , age 64, passed away January 10, 2010, after a five month battle with esophageal cancer at University of Alabama Birmingham's Palliative Care Unit in Birmingham with family at his side.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Wednesday, January 13, 2010, from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Reverend William Hart officiating. Interment will follow with Military Honors in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Tuesday evening.
The youngest of six children, Harold is the son of the late T.R. "Bob" and Ouida Marsh of Ozark. He was a devoted member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Ozark where he met and married his wife, Jean. He proudly served as an air traffic controller in The Alabama Air National Guard for 21 years, and he retired from General Telephone Electric after 31 years of employment at the age of 50. He spent his retirement years caring for his parents, his in-laws, many seniors in the Marley Mill community, and more recently, his young grandchildren.
Harold is survived by his wife of 40 years, Norma Jean Peters Marsh, and two daughters: Dr. Tamara Marsh Flowers (Fred) of Apalachicola, Florida, and Shannon Marsh Wesley (Justin) of Birmingham. He has four grandchildren: Sara Beasley Flowers, Dru Flowers, Rhett Wesley, and Shepard Wesley; brothers, Russell (Mary) Marsh and Bobby (Sandra) Marsh both of Ozark, and sisters Shelby (Joe) Godwin of Ozark and JoAnn Boyett of Montgomery. He is preceded in death by his parents, his oldest sister, Jeanette Overman, and brother-in-law, John Boyett. Harold has many surviving nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be sent in his memory to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church-Building Fund (1124 County Road 11, Ozark, AL 36360) or to the Esophageal Cancer Awareness Association (ECaware.org).
