Rosalie Grindle was born July 14, 1932, in Meredosia, Illinois to Frank and Marie Breakville. On May 25, 1951, she married Buell Ray Powell in Jacksonville, Illinois. Buell was an officer in the United States Army and therefore they were stationed in many different places during their marriage including tours in Oklahoma, California, Virginia, Alaska, Kansas, Georgia and Alabama. Rosalie was a dedicated and loyal military wife who actively participated in and supported her husband’s military career. During their marriage they had four daughters and Rosalie was a devoted, loving and nurturing mother to their girls.
Rosalie later married Clayton Grindle who also served his country in the United States Army. After Clay’s retirement from the military he and Rosalie entered into the real estate business in Ozark where Rosalie made many friends and was well respected by her colleagues in that profession.
Rosalie was one of eight children and is preceded in death by her parents and all her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Vicki Powell Byrne; Sandra Powell Williams (Mark); Patricia Powell Steagall (Fred); Tammy Powell Sanders (Chris). Eleven grandchildren, Mark Phillips, Lindsey Salter, Jason Woods, Jessica Williams Scheer, Sloan Williams, Emily Brooke Williams, Spencer Steagall, Scott Steagall, Mary-Frances Steagall, Blake Sanders, Parker Sanders and four great grandchildren.
Rosalie was an extremely patriotic person. She was first and foremost proud of her country and the men and women who served the United States of America in the military. She was also a gentle, compassionate and caring person who always had a special place in her heart for her family and people from all walks of life who were less fortunate or in need.
Her kind and considerate spirit will be greatly missed and carried in our hearts forever.
We are deeply indebted to her loyal and faithful friend and caregiver, Michelle Waker. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Dale County Humane Society, P. O. Box 2502, Ozark, Alabama 36361, Veterans of Foreign Wars, or Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 759541, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8541.
