Obituary of John Clifton Hughes

Mr. John Clifton Hughes, 89, went home to Glory Friday morning, April 25, 2014. Funeral services will be at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, April 27, 2014, from Ozark First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Greg Doss officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Sunday at the church from 2:00 P. M. until service time. Mr. Hughes was born in Dale County on February 18, 1925 to John Harley and Quillie Lisenby Hughes. Mr. Hughes was employed with Walter Hand Ford Motor Company in Ozark, and later as an inspector at Fort Rucker until his retirement in 1990, when he became the manager of Flowers Center of Performing Arts until 2003. He was instrumental in installing sound systems in numerous area churches. He was an active member of Ozark First Assembly of God Church and served as a Sunday School Superintendent, deacon, and in the sound ministry at Ozark First Assembly for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister, as well as a great grandson, Morgan Brooks. Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nemma Elizabeth Griggs Hughes; one son, Anthony C. (Tony) and Charlotte Hughes of Ozark; and one daughter, Rhonda and Ronnie Snellgrove of Ozark. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jill (Don) Ezell, Betsy (Craig) Peterson, Josh (Jennifer) Snellgrove, and Chad (Victoria) Snellgrove. Eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ozark First Assembly of God Church, 170 Country Club Drive, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
