Command Sergeant Major Wagner served in the United States Army from 1943 until 1973 when he retired as the Post Command Sergeant Major, U. S. Army Aviation Center and School at Fort Rucker, Alabama. During his military career he served in World War II from 1944 until 1945, D Day, the Battle of the Bulge, and was a prisoner of war. He served in Korea from 1951 until 1953, and Vietnam from 1968 until 1969. His awards are as follows: Legion of Merit, 2 Bronze Star Medals with Valor and Oak Leaf Cluster, 2 Purple Hearts with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster,Good Conduct Medal with 8 Clasps, Prisoner of War Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, American Theater Ribbon, European Theater of Operations with 4 Campaign Stars, Korean Service Medal with 4 Campaign Stars, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Campaign Stars, Presidential Citation with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Belgian Fourregere, World War II Victory Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, and Korean Presidential Citation.
