Obituary of Thelma Roberts Payne

Mrs. Thelma Roberts Payne, age 74, of Skipperville, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday afternoon, May 4, 2008, in Flowers Hospital with family members at her side. Funeral services will be graveside at 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Skipperville Cemetery with Reverend Freddie L. McCain officiating. Interment will follow, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Tuesday evening. Mrs. Payne was born April 30, 1934 to the late Neal and Lunnie B. Roberts. She was a native and life-long resident of Skipperville. She worked on the farm with her husband until 1968 at which time she began her career at Westpoint Pepperell in Abbeville. She retired in 1996 following 28 years with Westpoint. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 1/2 years, Carroll "Tunnie" Payne in 2007, and by a sister Mary Alice Valverde, and a brother Ellis Roberts. Survivors include two sons, David Payne and Danny Payne of Skipperville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Rob Hoskins of Ozark, Peggy and Darrell Spivey of Ozark, and Pam and Anthony Danner of Ariton; five grandchildren, Steven Stubbs and his wife, Laura of Greenville, South Carolina, Elizabeth Foist of Ozark, Tara Duke of Daleville, Jed Danner of Bozeman, Montana, and Matthew Spivey of Ozark; two great grandchildren, Arlan Duke and Brooke Foist; and a brother-in-law, Pablo Valverde of Hartford. Several nieces and nephews also survive.Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in her memory to Wiregrass Hospice, P. O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, Alabama 36302. Service Information
