Obituary of James C. Dunn

Mr. James Carroll "Jimmy" Dunn, Sr., age 90, of Ozark, died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at his home. A memorial service for Mr. Dunn will be held 10:00 A. M. Thursday, July 19, 2012, from The First United Methodist Church of Ozark with Reverend Dr. Christian Eckert and Reverend Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P. M. Mr. Dunn was born March 11, 1922 in Dale County to the late George Luther Dunn and Corinne Marie Carroll Dunn. He attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University. He then served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater where he received the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters and The Purple Heart. Mr. Dunn returned to Ozark and married Peggy Olofsson, a union which lasted 67 years until his death. He owned and operated Dunn Plumbing and Electrical and worked with his brother, Oscar Dunn at Dunn Wholesale in Ozark. Later he worked as an electrical engineer with Columbian Peanut Company, Archer Daniels Midland, and retired from Golden Peanut Company. Mr. Dunn was one of Ozark's early aviators and was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Ozark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Oscar Luther "Luke" Dunn; one sister, Marie White Ard, and two brothers, Oscar Carroll Dunn and George Carroll Dunn, Sr. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Peggy Olofsson Dunn of Ozark; three sons and three daughters-in-law, James C. Dunn, Jr. and Karen of Newport News, Virginia, William Bray and Cindy Dunn of Ozark, John Arthur "Johnny" and Martha Dunn of Ozark; three grandchildren, James Christopher Dunn, John Arthur Dunn, Jr., and Kimberly Michelle Dunn; two great grandchildren, Nicholas Aaron Dunn and Katy Arianna Dunn. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
