Mrs. Payne was a native of the Asbury Community in Dale County. She was the daughter of John N. and Getherine Grace Snell, and the widow of E. C. "Mack" Payne. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her daughter Peggy Payne Watson, and one brother, Neal Snell.
