Obituary of Mellona Powers Woodham

Our Mother, Mellona Powers Woodham, age 87, went to be with her Lord on March 24, 2008. She had resided at The Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Facility since November 2007. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, from Chalkhead Baptist Church with Reverend Tommy West and Chaplain John Withrock officiating. Interment will follow in Ewell Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Tuesday evening. Otherwise, the family will be at the home of Tommy and Patricia Shipman, 3218 County Road 18 in Ozark. Mrs. Woodham was a homemaker who enjoyed fishing, quilting, sewing, singing, and flowers. Her greatest pleasure was working side by side with her late husband, Ray M. Woodham, on the farm. She loved her family and was always willing to help where she could. Mrs. Woodham was a member of Chalkhead Baptist Church for 72 years, and was a member of the Lois Powers Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ray M. Woodham in December 2003, her parents, Loyce and Lillie Powers, her brother, O B Powers, and her son-in-law, E. Wayne Carr. Mrs. Woodham is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Carr of Pensacola, Florida, Patricia and Tommy Shipman of Ozark, Jeanelle and Doug Hill of Navarre, Florida; six grandchildren, Wynona Lynn Carr of Pensacola, Florida, Anthony (Jenny) Shipman of Dacula, Georgia, Jennifer (Craig) Powell of Ozark, Carrie (Ryan) Fitzpatrick of Ozark, Adam (Amanda) Brockett of Ozark, Derrick Hill of Panama City, Florida; seven great grandchildren, Kaylie and Gracie Powell of Ozark, Braydon Brockett of Ozark, Sidney Shipman of Dacula, Georgia, Brycen Fitzpatrick of Ozark, Brandon and Preston Davis of Hawaii; two sisters, Louise Withrow and Frances Wambles of Ozark; one sister-in-law, Minnie Beverette of Midland City; and a precious "sister", Sue Stuckey of Ozark. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Covenant Hospice, 2855 Ross Clark Circle - Suite 110, Dothan, Alabama 36301, or to Chalkhead Challenge to Grow Fund, 495 County Road 35, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
