Obituary of Matilda Rose Kane

Mrs. Matilda Rose Heberling Kane, age 94, of Ozark, formerly of Saugerties, New York, died Monday evening, September 29, 2008, at the home of her daughter. A Memorial Mass for Mrs. Kane will be held at 4:00 P. M. Saturday, October 11, 2008 from St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ozark with Reverend Paul Egbe and Reverend John Ross officiating, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Interment and a graveside service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Barclay Heights, Saugerties, New York, at a later date. Mrs. Kane was born April 11, 1914 in Paterson, New Jersey to the late Othmar and Maria Holzer Heberling. She was a graduate of St. Boniface School in Paterson, New Jersey, Holy Trinity High School, Passaic, New Jersey, and a business school in New Jersey for secretarial work. She was a former parishioner and communicant of St. Mary's of the Snow R. C., Saugerties, where she was a member of the Rosary Society, PTA, and taught religious education. Mrs. Kane was a fourteen-year employee of Sawyer Savings Bank, she retired in 1981 to Lafayette, Colorado where she lived until moving to Alabama in 2000. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Basil J. Kane on June 27, 1966, her son-in-law, Mike Schovel, and her brothers and sisters, Ott Heberling, John Heberling, Betty H. Bednar, Joe Heberling, and Anna Heberling. Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Kane of Charleston, South Carolina and Elaine K. Schovel of Ozark; two sons, Brian Kane of Denver, Colorado and Alan Kane of Kingston, New York. Ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lighthouse Hospice, P. O. Box 965, Troy, Alabama 36081; or to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Ministry of Care, P. O. Box 1008, Ozark, Alabama 36361. Service Information
