Obituary of Alex E. Mathis

Mr. Alex E. Mathis, age 74, of Skipperville died Monday, March 1, 2010, at his home. A memorial service for Mr. Mathis will be held at a later date in Madison, Florida. Holman Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Mathis was born December 8, 1935 in Madison, Florida to the late Willie James Mathis and Lydia Webb Mathis. He worked with Suwannee Farms for twenty years in O'Brien, Florida and with Coastal Paving and Sod in Pinellas Park, Florida. Mr. Mathis farmed in Suwannee County, Florida until his retirement. They have made their home in Skipperville for the past three years. Mr. Mathis attended Skipperville United Methodist Church and was baptized on February 18th. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, James Howarth; one grandson, Jeremy White; three brothers, Charles, James, and Dalton Mathis; and one aunt, Leona Bass. Survivors include his wife, Billie Ann Grant Mathis of Skipperville; children, Sonie Thompson, Anna Kavt and husband Craig, Jenie Whitlock and husband Steve, Wade Mathis and wife Pricilla, Tracey Mathis and wife Chris, John Mathis and wife Robin, Paul Eastman and wife Monta, Charlie Eastman, Pam Hughes, and Wally Howarth and wife Holli; and two sisters, Edith Thomas and Linda Davis. Twenty-nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Service Information
