Obituary of Alice Matthews Browne

Mrs. Alice (Pat) Matthews Browne, of Bowling Green, Ohio, formerly of Ozark, Alabama, died December 27, 2013. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Saturday, January 4, 2014, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 10:00 A. M. until service time. Mrs. Browne was born April 29, 1932, in Ozark, Alabama, to the late Shellie and Era Dean Matthews. In 1965, she married Ray B. Browne, and they lived for many years in Bowling Green, Ohio, where she worked as manager of Bowling Green State University's Popular Press. Professionally, she was very proud of her work with Ray and their beloved colleagues in founding and supporting the Popular and American Culture Associations. Pat retired from BGSU in 2002 and remained in Bowling Green until moving to Tuscaloosa in 2012 to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Pat was predeceased by her husband, Ray, whom she missed very much, and nine older brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Glenn (Cecilia), Kevin (Shannon), and Alicia (Larry Kreiser); her beloved grandchildren, Kira Browne and Julia and Anna Kreiser; her sister-in law, Frances Matthews, and many loving nieces and nephews, including Chris Fain Walker, with whom she took many wonderful trips.
