Obituary of Herman W. Smith

Mr. Herman William Smith, age 91, of Piedmont, Alabama, formerly of Daleville, died Saturday, July 19, 2008, in Piedmont Health Care Center. Funeral services will be graveside at 2:00 P. M. Saturday, July 26, 2008, in Morningview Cemetery with Reverend Harry Circle officiating. Interment will follow with military honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Mr. Smith was born February 13, 1917 in Narka, Kansas to the late Gertrude Durkee Smith and John Worthington Smith. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Smith worked with the Goodyear Tire Company in Lincoln, Nebraska for thirty years until his retirement. He then moved to Buena Vista, Colorado where he lived for seventeen years prior to moving to Daleville. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Louise Moody Smith in 1997, his daughter Ruth Knowles and son John Smith. Survivors include one daughter, Lois Frost of Arvada, Colorado; One son, Marty Knowles of Surprise, Arizona; Daughter-in-law, Melodie Smith, Ohatchee, Alabama; Family caretakers Dan and Mindy Long of Piedmont, Alabama; Eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren also survive.
