Obituary of Sylvia Polis Schaffer

Mrs. Sylvia Polis Schaffer, age 91, of Montgomery, formerly of Ozark, died Sunday morning, September 15, 2013, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be graveside at 1:00 P. M. Tuesday, September 17, 2013, in Memory Hills Cemetery in Dothan, Alabama with Rabbi Lynn Goldsmith and Reverend John D. Reese III officiating. Interment will follow, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.
Mrs. Schaffer was born September 15, 1922 in St. Claire, Pennsylvania to the late Morris and Fannie Polis. She and her late husband, Nathan Schaffer, owned and operated Schaffer’s Department Store in Ozark, Alabama. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Bill David Polis.
She is survived by three children, Joel Elliot Schaffer and Steven Marc Schaffer both of Atlanta, Georgia, and Beth Tobie Schaffer of Montgomery, Alabama;
one sister, Lillian Rosen of Baltimore, Maryland.
She is also survived by our devoted dog, Sadie.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mr. J. B. Patrick, Mr. William Patrick, Mr. James Lisenby all of Ozark, Alabama, Mr. Jack Bluemenfield of Dothan, Alabama, Mr. David Miller and Mr. Scott Miller both of Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Lane Miller of Portland, Oregon, Mr. Abraham Glutz of New York, New York, Mr. Albert Polis of Landsdale, Pennsylvania, and Mr. Rveven Polis of New York, New York.
