Obituary of Raymond T. Williams

Mr. Raymond Therman "Ray" Williams, age 59, of Ozark, died at his home Thursday morning, November 6, 2008. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Sunday, November 9, 2008, from Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Greg Aman, Reverend John D. Reese, III, and Reverend Dave Burgess officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. His body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Sunday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30 P. M. until 7:30 P. M. Saturday evening. Mr. Williams was born October 15, 1949 in Dothan, Alabama to Leadell Dameron Williams and the late Bryant Fleming Williams, Sr.. Ray was a 1967 graduate of Carroll High School and attended Marion Military Institute where he attained an Associate of Arts Degree. He also attended The University of Alabama where he pledged Sigma Chi Fraternity. Ray was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and also was associated with Local Troop 20 of Ozark. For more than thirteen years he was trained in all positions of highway, bridge and commercial construction. He owned and operated B. F. Williams Construction Company in Ozark. He was an active member of the Alabama Road Builders Association and held the distinct honor of being the youngest member to serve as president. Ray was a talented musician and enjoyed his role as vocalist and trumpet player in the bands Burgundy Seven, Flashback, and Flambeaux. Flashback donated much time and talent to benefit community projects such as Claybank Jamboree and Relay for Life. Ray was a lifetime member of Ozark Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Carolyn Weston Williams of Ozark; one daughter and son-in-law, Abigail Williams Ganus and husband Brian of Warrior, Alabama; one son, Raymond T. Williams, Jr. of Eufaula; his Mother, Mrs. Leadell D. Williams of Ozark; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Merry Dixon of Birmingham, Linda and Tommy Parker of Warsaw, North Carolina, Sylvia Dodgen of Ozark, and Cindy Lanier of Ozark; one brother and sister-in-law, Bryant F., Jr. and Emily Williams of Ozark.
