Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Sunday. Mrs. Allen was born December 1, 1915 in Geneva, Alabama to the late Marion Franklin and Buena Vista Redmon; she was the youngest of five children. She and her late husband, Herbert Allen, were childhood sweethearts. They eloped when she was sixteen before he set out to sea on a Navy ship. They spent many years traveling and lived in Washington State, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, French Morocco, Amagansett L. I., New York, and retired to Newton, Alabama in 1954. In Newton they ran a small grocery store and she studied cosmetology at Napier Field and owned a beauty shop. Mrs. Allen worked at the Fort Rucker Book Store for eight years as a supply clerk and engraver. She was a wonderful homemaker and cook, and planned many family reunions and holidays. She was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and has always been a prayer warrior for family and friends. She had a quick wit, played the piano by ear, had a beautiful alto voice, and dabbled in crafts. She loved baseball, football, and Fox news. In her declining years when eyesight and energy failed, she loved to listen to her pastor's sermons, music, and books on CD. She delighted in phone calls and cards from her family. Hazel will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her, especially her family. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Albert Franklin Allen. Survivors include one daughter, Alice Faye Mizell and husband, Jack of Ozark; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Allen of Abbeville; six grandchildren, Susannah Mizell Hodges and husband Vincent of Montgomery, Molly Mizell Comin and husband Giovanni of Templeton, CA, Boyd Jackson Mizell of Winterpark, FL, Bonnie Sheree Mizell of Las Vegas, NV, Margaret Allen Sanchez and husband Ismael of Dallas, Texas, Christopher Allen and wife Dana of San Diego, CA; four great grandchildren, Vittoria Grace Comin, Luciano Giovanni Comin, Haley Lynn Hodges, and McKerral Vincent Hodges; nephew, Gene Sellers, wife Charlotte, and family of Birmingham; extended family, Marion and Arden Moe of Roseau, Minnesota.
