Obituary of Leamon Allen Herring

Mr. Leamon Allen Herring, age 74, of Eufaula, formerly of Ozark, died at his home early Wednesday morning, March 5, 2008, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Friday, March 7, 2008, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home of Ozark with Reverend Roger Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Thursday evening. Mr. Herring was born September 27, 1933 in Dale County to the late Willie Martin Herring and Leamon Ellis Herring. He attended the Newton City Schools and worked with Walter Hand Motor Company in Ozark for over 33 years. Mr. Herring was an avid fisherman, loved computer bingo and yard work, and was a big Auburn football and NASCAR enthusiast. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Avant, Rose Lee Smith, and Hazel Scott, and one brother, Willie Frank Herring. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Gloria Lindsey Herring of Eufaula; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Tony Chavis of Wicksburg, Charlotte and Tim Walker of Milton, Florida, Sherry and Greg Orwick of Findlay, Ohio, Cindy and David Kelly of Franklin, Tennessee; one son, David Herring of Dothan; one step-daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Donnie Helms of Eufaula; one step-son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Virginia Lindsey of Clayton; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Dot and Robert Brannon of Ozark, Sara Daniel of Hartford, and Laurada Harris of Ozark; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Dorothy Herring of Newton; brother-in-law, Auburn Scott of Prattville; and Toby, his dashound, who was his constant companion. Fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 107 Baker Drive, Eufaula, Alabama 36027, or to Wiregrass Hospice, 831 West Washington Street, Eufaula, Alabama 36027.
