Colonel John Locke Redd, USAF (Retired), age 87, of Ozark, died Saturday, August 23, 2008, at his home following a brief illness. Memorial services for Colonel Redd will be 2:00 P. M. Thursday, August 28, 2008, at St. Michael's Episcopal Church with Reverend Dr. Thomas Nixon officiating. Masonic Rites and Full Military Honors will be presented following the service, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Colonel Redd was born January 15, 1921 in Union Springs, Alabama to the late Marion Woodville Redd and Minnie Lee McNair Redd. Called into military service in 1943, he had a distinguished career in the United States Air Force, including service in World War II and the Korean War. He served as a navigator on supply planes in Burma and India. He became a Command Pilot and Served as an aircraft commander and missile maintenance officer, retiring in 1968. Colonel Redd and his wife, Louise, moved to Ozark in 1976 where he was a member of St. Michael Episcopal Church. He had been a Mason for 50 years. Survivors include his wife, Louise Russell Redd of Ozark; four daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne Ross and Ted Dodenhoff of Scottsdale, Arizona, Sydna Christensen of Grove, Oklahoma, Julia and William Thomas of Salt Lake City, Utah, Janice and David Froberg of San Antonio, Texas,; two sons and daughter-in-law, Clyde and Sue McCleary of Bradenton, Florida, and Colonel George and Karen McCleary of Ozark; and his beloved dog, Jennie. Seventeen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandson also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael's Episcopal Church Building Fund, P.O.Box 955, Ozark, Alabama 36361. Service Information
