Obituary of George W. Johnston

Mr. George Johnston, age 62, of Ozark, died Tuesday evening, September 1, 2009, resulting from an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Friday, September 4, 2009, from Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Greg Aman and Reverend Phil Craddock officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Mr. Johnston's body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time Friday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 P. M. until 6:00 P. M. Thursday evening.
Mr. Johnston was born December 24, 1946 in Dothan, Alabama to Marie Cotton Johnston and the late William Porter Johnston. He graduated from Carroll High School in Ozark in 1965, where he played basketball and received a basketball scholarship to the University of Montevallo, graduating in 1969 with a degree in business administration. Mr. Johnston served two years in the United States Army. Following his military service he joined his father in the custom home building business and continued in the business after his father's retirement, building many homes in the local area. He was an avid fisherman, spending many hours on the Chattahoochee enjoying nature and fishing. He was a life-long member of Ozark Baptist Church, a devoted and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Corcoran Johnston of Ozark;
two daughters and one son-in-law, Jana and Jason Robinette of Enterprise, and Kelly Johnston of Banks;
his Mother, Marie Cotton Johnston of Ozark;
one sister and brother-in-law, Sissy and Larry Long of Birmingham;
one brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Patty Johnston of Montgomery;
two grandchildren, Macy and Jack Robinette of Enterprise;
sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tina and Carrol Caples of Birmingham.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Ozark Baptist Church, 282 South Union Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360; or Vivian B. Adams School, 2047 Stuart Tarter Road, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
