Obituary of Charles Louis Johnston

Mr. Charles Louis Johnston, age 75, of Newville, died Friday afternoon, June 27, 2008, at his home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Monday, June 30, 2008, from Wesley Chapel Community Church with Reverend Terriel Andrews and Reverend Clarence Watson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Mr. Johnston's body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 P. M. until 5:00 P. M. Sunday afternoon. Otherwise, they will be at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Angee and Michael Ryan Pierce, 8098 County Road 54 in Skipperville. Mr. Johnston was born June 30, 1932 in Dale County to the late Henry Clayton Johnston and Mary Belle Stephens Johnston. He served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955, then worked as a carpenter and brick mason. Mr. Johnston enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lori Lynn Johnston, four sisters, and four brothers. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Tate Johnston of Newville; one daughter and son-in-law, Angee and Michael Ryan Pierce of Bells Cross Roads; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sheila Johnston of Ozark; four grandchildren, David Pierce, Kyle Pierce, Kaylie Pierce, Matt Johnston and his wife, Cayla; and one sister, Molly Bell of Bells Cross Roads. Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Tucker, George Johnston, Rickey Johnson, Matthew Johnston, David Pierce, and Kyle Pierce. Honorary pallbearers will be John W. Bell, Charles Hughes, Matthew Bell, and Jeff Bell. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Wesley Chapel Community Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, C/O Mr. John William Bell, 8510 County Road 54, Skipperville, Alabama 36374.
