Obituary of Anne Freeman Smith

Mrs. Anne Freeman Smith, age 79, of Ozark, died Sunday morning, September 28, 2008, at her home. Funeral services will be 10:30 A. M. Thursday, October 2, 2008, from the First United Methodist Church of Ozark with Reverend Dr. Christian Eckert and Reverend Dr. Jason Thrower officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Wednesday evening. Her body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Thursday. Mrs. Smith was born March 21, 1929 in Bartow, Florida to the late Lillie Lisenby Freeman and Seales Menefee Freeman. After her father's death in 1942, she and her mother and brother moved to her mother's hometown, Ozark. She finished school in Ozark and attended Huntingdon College and Troy State College, now Troy University. She was a recreation supervisor at Fort Rucker until her marriage in 1961. She left Ozark in 1961 and returned in 1995 to make her home. Her children, Donna and Tony, and her grandchild, Samantha were her life. She participated in numerous volunteer organizations throughout her life. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark. She was past president of the John Wesley Fellowship Class, the Fun and Frolic Group, the Friends of the Library, was on the Church Administrative Board, and a member of the PEO Sisterhood and Circle I. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James William "Bill" Freeman. Mrs. Smith is survived by one daughter, Donna Leigh Herrmann of New Orleans; one son, Anthony Freeman Smith of Orlando; one granddaughter, Samantha Leigh Herrmann of New Orleans; one sister-in-law, Gail Freeman of Montgomery; one nephew, Jeffery Freeman of Atlanta. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Meditation Garden, 167 East Broad Street, Ozark, Alabama 36360; or to Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Mrs. Janet Brooks, 7300 East County Road 36, Ozark, Alabama 36360. It was Anne's request that the John Wesley Sunday School Class and Circle I serve as honorary pallbearers. Service Information
