Obituary of Gertrude Lisenby Cowart

Mrs. Gertrude Lisenby Cowart, age 90, of Ozark, died Friday evening, February 12, 2010, in Oakview Manor Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Monday, February 15, 2010, from the First United Methodist Church of Ozark with Reverend Dr. Christian Eckert, her nephew, Reverend Joe W. Lisenby, and Reverend Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Her body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 P. M. until 5:00 P. M. Sunday.
Mrs. Cowart was born October 19, 1919 in Dale County to the late Joseph Edward and Julia Marshall Lisenby. She was a graduate of Dale County High School and Mobile Nursing School. She worked for Dr. G. R. Smith in Ozark as his nurse until his retirement, and then worked with Civil Service at Lyster Army Hospital at Fort Rucker until her retirement in 1984. Mrs. Cowart was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark and the John Wesley Sunday School Class. She loved being active in her church, gardening, cooking, and was an avid bridge player. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Joe, Bob, Ray, Tee, and Sam Lisenby; four sisters, Florence Brown, Lora Byrd, Chellie V. Baldwin, and Nettie Jane Lisenby.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Robert Enyeart of Ozark;

one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Karen Cowart of Ozark;
five grandchildren, Amanda Sneed and husband Ben, Megan Enyeart, Dawn Simpson and husband Randy, Autumn Backwell and husband Myles, Douglas Cowart and wife Mary Nelan. Six "Great" grandchildren also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Oakview Manor Health Care Center for their loving and compassionate services.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Nettie Jane Lisenby Playground Fund, First United Methodist Church of Ozark, 167 East Broad Street, Ozark, Alabama 36360; or to Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Janet Brooks, 7300 East County Road 36, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
