Mr. John Wesley Lisenby, age 78, of Ozark, died Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at his home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Friday, September 2, 2005 in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Dr. Thomas Leggett and Reverend John D. Reese, III officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon Friday until service time. Mr. Lisenby was born July 29, 1927 in Ozark to the late Lucy Lee Woods Lisenby and William Oscar Lisenby, Sr. He enlisted in the United States Army at Fort McClellan in 1945 and served as a Private during World War II in Kimpo, Korea and Yokohama, Japan and served during the Korean Conflict. He then was a N. C. O. Armor Instructor at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Upon returning to Ozark, he joined the Alabama National Guard 131 Armor Battalion and received a direct commission, retiring as a Major. He attended Basic and Advanced Armor Courses Air-Ground Combat School and Command and General Staff College. He graduated from Troy University with a B. S. Major in History. He was employed with Civil Service at the Test Board Cairns Army Air Field. Mr. Lisenby was a member of Westview Heights United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Ellen Owen, Elizabeth Futrell, and Lucy Woods Whitaker; one brother, William Oscar Lisenby, Jr., and one grandniece, Jennifer Garrott. Survivors include his wife, Jean Pitman Lisenby, Ozark, one daughter, Laura Jean Scott, Ozark, one son, Steven Lisenby and his wife, Nancy, Brownsville, Texas, and two grandchildren, Shelby and Matthew Lisenby, Brownsville, Texas. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in his memory to Westview Heights United Methodist Church, 800 Camilla Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360, or to the American Red Cross, Wiregrass Chapter, P.
