Obituary of Doris Peters Matthews

Mrs. Doris Peters Matthews, age 71, died early Friday morning, December 7, 2007, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Sunday, December 9, 2007, from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Reverend William Hart and her nephew Reverend Jim Peters officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Her body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Sunday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P.M. Saturday. Mrs. Matthews was born January 30, 1936 in Dale County to the late Fred K. and Inez Carroll Peters. She worked in the cafeteria at Carroll High School for over eighteen years. Mrs. Matthews loved her family and enjoyed working in her yard and flower garden. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by one sister, Melba Peters Hollis, and one brother, Carroll Peters. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Earl Dean Matthews of Ozark; one daughter, Amanda Matthews of Panama City, Florida; four sisters, Betty Owens of New Orleans, Louisiana, Christine Pasch of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Martha Shoemaker of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Nina Jo Daya of Farmington Hills, Michigan; two brothers, Howard Peters and Fred K. Peters, Jr., both of Ozark, and many nieces and nephews.
