Obituary of Michael C. Schovel

Mr. Schovel was born August 7, 1948 in Monticello, New York. He graduated from high school in Saugerties, New York, and from Syracuse University College of Forestry in Syracuse, New York. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Troy State University as a Master in Education. Mr. Schovel served in the United States Army for twenty five years, retiring in 1995 as a CW4 Instructor Pilot. Following his military service, Mr. Schovel became involved in the field of education, teaching in the Daleville School System. He was very active in the Catholic Parish of the Fort Rucker Main Post Chapel, and served as a Lector (Reader of Scripture) and as an Usher. He and his wife taught Sunday School and Pre-Cana courses in their parish. He was an active volunteer in the Alabama-Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and instrumental in guiding his son to the rank of Eagle Scout. As a member of the Dothan Wiregrass Art League, he was an accomplished artist in oils and pen and ink. His writing was published in Troy State University Dothan's Copperblade Review. Mr. Schovel was a well-loved member of their writing club. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
