Claude C. Etheredge was born October 15, 1924 in McKenzie, Alabama to Elder S. W. and Mrs. Lena Hester Etheredge. He moved with his parents to Ozark, living here the remainder of his life except for five years when he, his wife, and three daughters lived in Hartford, Alabama. He was a member of Dale County High School class of 1944. His wife and children were very proud that he received his GED and promoted himself further by completing a Dale Carnegie course. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church where he was a deacon and treasurer. He was instrumental in establishing the Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church Religious and Historical Society. Claude retired from Phillip Van Heusen following 38 years of service. He worked every job in the pajama and shirt factory, working his way from janitor to plant manager. Claude and his wife of 59 years, Louise, enjoyed working together in his vegetable garden and in their beautiful flower garden. Claude and Louise's home was given the first Ozark Beautification Award. Their home was also featured in the first Ozark-Dothan area Botanical Garden tour. He also kept the grounds of his Church in exceptional condition. No one ever had a better husband, daddy, brother, uncle, boss, or friend than he was. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all that knew himEach life he touched was made better by having known Mr. Claude. The family extends a special thanks to Covenant Hospice and to his care givers, Sandra Burke and Tracy Gissendanner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elder and Mrs. S. W. Etheredge, one sister, Melba Standifer, and two brothers, A. P. Etheredge and Warren Etheredge Service Information
