Mr. Byrd was a native of the Longstreet Community of Dale County. He worked with Jones Farm Equipment Auction in Dothan for 30 years, and with Westpoint Stevens in Abbeville for 15 years. He had made Dothan his home since 1959, where he was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. He was an avid fisher, hunter, and friend to all.
