Obituary of Mavis Riley Watson

Mrs. Mavis Louise Riley Watson, age 80, of Enterprise, died Saturday evening, October 14, 2006, at her home. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, October 17, 2006 from Bethel United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Billy D. Gaither, Reverend Eddie Littlefield, and Reverend Benny Corbin officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Watson's body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Tuesday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Monday evening. Mrs. Watson was born March 16, 1926 in the Echo Community of Dale County to the late Lucy McDaniel Riley and Eldridge Hosea Riley. She attended Echo Elementary and Junior High School, and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She and Mr. Woodrow Watson were married in 1940. Mr. and Mrs. Watson owned and operated Copter Moving and Storage until their retirement in 1987. She was an avid fisherman, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. One of her greatest joys in life was cooking for her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by their son, Larry Malcolm Watson, and her brother, Max Riley. Surviving Mrs. Watson is her husband of 66 years, Woodrow Watson of Enterprise, three daughters, Janice Wells and her husband, Pat of Cottonwood, Patricia Wise and her husband, Tim of Coffee Springs, and Shandra Watson of Enterprise, two sons, Roger Watson and his wife, Judy of Eufaula, and Riley Watson and his wife, Sara of Enterprise, two sisters, Gayle Snell and her husband, James of Enterprise, and Jean Gunter and her husband, Charles of Echo, one sister-in-law, Martha Riley of Cuthbert, Georgia, nine grandchildren, Chris Watson, Craig Watson, Sissie Woodall, Pat Wells, Jr., Bo Wells, Kelli Blankenship, Clay Wise, Dewey Denman, and Dylan Denman, nine great grandchildren, River Watson, Brantley Watson, Marlee Wells, Hank Wells, Ashbey Woodall, Clara Lynn Blankenship, Alex Blankenship, Hannah Blankenship, and Anna Grace Wise. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in her memory to Wiregrass Hospice, 105 South Whaley Street, Opp, Alabama 36467.
