Obituary of Doris Hutt Head

Mrs. Doris Hutt Head, age 87, of Ozark, died Thursday morning, January 19, 2006, in Flowers Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Saturday, January 21, 2006, from Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Greg Aman and Reverend Bill Hix officiating. Interment will be at 4:00 P. M. in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Hale County, Alabama, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Friday evening. Mrs. Head was born November 22, 1918 in Hale County, Alabama, to the late Mattie Lou Taylor Hutt and John Samuel Hutt. She married James Emmett Head, Jr. and they moved to Ozark in 1957, where she was a homemaker, horticulturist, and avid genealogist. She was a member of Ozark Baptist Church, the Lydia Sunday School Class, and served on the floral committee for many years. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Head enjoyed flower gardening and working on their family farm. She was a devoted wife, grandmother, and caregiver to everyone she knew. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James Emmett Head, Jr. in May 2005, two sisters, Helen Hutt and Ollie Swan Hutt, and five brothers, Joe L. Hutt, John William Hutt, Fred Hutt, Thomas E. Hutt, and Harry N. Hutt. Survivors include one daughter, Jerrie Head Brittain and friend, Charles T. Parnelle, Charleston, South Carolina, one son, James Boswell Head and his wife, Deborah Williams, Ozark, seven grandchildren, Bonnie Brittain Geer and her husband, William Gordon, Charleston, South Carolina, Regina Brittain Baker and her husband, Michael John, Hampton, Virginia, Shannah Head Mallory and her husband, Patrick, Dothan, Brent Emmett Head and his wife, Cindy Eich, Birmingham, Bret Wade Head, Ozark, Tiffany Strickland Kelley and her husband, Justin, Auburn, Kelley Strickland Peak, Panama City, Florida. Nine great grandchildren also survive. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Ozark Baptist Church Building Fund, 282 South Union Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
