Obituary of Richard C. Grantham

Mr. Richard C. Grantham, age 82, of Ozark, died Sunday morning, August 26, 2007, at his home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Wednesday, August 29, 2007, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home of Ozark with Reverend Charles Kerby officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in the Bertha Community, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Tuesday evening. Mr. Grantham was born May 13, 1925 in Dale County to the late Ollie Frances Snell Grantham and Richard Cecil Grantham. He attended school in Ozark and then graduated from Troy State University. Mr. Grantham joined the United States Army, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked with the United States Post Office as a rural mail carrier for 35 years until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Grantham was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who enjoyed fishing, Alabama Crimson Tide football, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He was a member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Grantham was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Imogene Norris Grantham Dubose, his wife, Jeanette Dasinger Grantham, Tina Field, and his sister, Olivia Jellick. Survivors include one daughter, Marina Grantham Jeffcoat of Ozark, one son, Richard N. "Rick" Grantham of Ozark, two grandchildren, Richard Norris Grantham, II, and Jason Cecil Grantham, three great grandchildren, Robin Lynn Grantham, Madiline Nicole Grantham, and Damon Bailey Grantham, and a special caregiver, Mary Ray of Ozark.
