Obituary of Gus Eric Jowers

LTC (Retired) Gus "Eric" Jowers, a resident of Ozark, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, in Jacksonville, Florida after a wonderful and loving life. He has left a legacy of friendships, laughter, teachings, and joy, and a love of family, friends, and God. Funeral services will be 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Ozark, Alabama with the Reverend Dr. Christian Eckert, the Reverend Marty Hamilton, the Reverend John Plummer, and COL (Retired) Everett Roper officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2007, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark. Eric was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on June 10, 1948, graduated from Stuttgart High School in 1966, and from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe in 1970. He served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot, artilleryman, and public affairs officer from 1970 until 1993 at the United States Army Aviation Center at Fort Rucker, including a tour as a pilot in Vietnam. He moved to Ozark after retiring from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel and married the former Sheryl White in 1995. He founded Omni Government Services, LLP, and served as the President until his death. He was instrumental in local politics, was an avid (and average) golfer, loved spending time with his family and friends, was active in his Church, and was a blessing to everyone who had the pleasure to know him. Eric was preceded in death by his father, William Jowers; his stepfather Henry Way; and his brother, William Jowers, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Sheryl Jowers; his mother, Ellouise Way; his stepmother, Margaret Ann Jowers; his brothers, Brad and H.L. Way; his sisters, Jo Ellen and Katherine Jowers; his sisters-in-law Katherine and Enimia Way; his daughters Keri and Emily; his son, Jason; his daughter-in-law Esbelle Jowers; numerous nephews and nieces, and other friends and family too numerous to count. In lieu of flowers, he would prefer that donations be made in his honor to either the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 100 Chase Park South-Suite 220, Birmingham, Alabama 35244, or the First United Methodist Church, 167 East Broad Street, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
