Carl E. Midkiff, Sr., SFC (United States Army, Retired), age 78, of Ozark, died Wednesday evening, January 9, 2008, at his home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Saturday, January 12, 2008, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Chaplain Charles Goldsmith officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with full Military Honors and Masonic Rites, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Friday evening. Mr. Midkiff was born July 21, 1929 to the late Verna Scott Massey and Joshua Montgomery Midkiff. He was a native of Coalton, Ohio where he spent his early years between Jackson, Ohio and the Big Coal River area of West Virginia. Mr. Midkiff was a decorated veteran of World War II, Korean and Viet Nam wars. He began his military career and honorable service to his nation by joining the United States Marine Corps at age 17 and continued his career in the United States Army assigned to various aviation units, retiring in August of 1969 at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Mr. Midkiff continued his aviation career by teaching at the Alabama Aviation and Technical College in Ozark, retiring from there in 1990. Mr. Midkiff traveled with his wife for many years in support of the Alabama Woman's Bowling Association (AWBA). Through his untiring efforts and dedicated support, he was awarded the official title of "AWBA Mascot". In addition to his parents, Mr. Midkiff was preceded in death by his son, Carl Blair Midkiff; one sister, Patsy Rosetta McGarvey; two brothers, Richard McGinnis and Eddie Midkiff; and one son-in-law, Dean Turner. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Judy Clark Midkiff of Ozark; two sons, Carl Midkiff, Jr. and his wife Katina Midkiff of Ozark, Dan Midkiff and his wife Sandra Midkiff of Round Rock, Texas; one daughter, Kay Turner of Dothan; seven grandchildren, Sarah and Victouria (Tori) Midkiff of Ozark, Brooke and Robert Midkiff of Austin, Texas, Stacie Barfield of Dothan, Michael Martel of Washington, and Teet Keating and his wife Stacie of Dothan; four great-grandchildren, Bren Briggs, Aubree Barfield, Austin and Ashtin Tillis; one uncle, Robert Scott of Hawley, Texas; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends most especially Chuck and Dorothy Powers of Tennessee and Bill Jones of Ozark. The family would like to express special thanks to Wiregrass Hospice, and our special angles: Mindy, Karina, Jackie, Joanna, and Donna.
