Obituary of Forrest Franklin Leatherwood

Mr. Forrest Leatherwood, 83, of Ozark, died Friday morning, December 3, 2004 in Dale Medical Center. Funeral services will be 3:30 P. M. Sunday, December 5, 2004, at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Reverend Isom Hill and Reverend W. L. Sheffield officiating. Private interment for extended family will follow in Carroll Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Saturday evening. The body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Sunday. Mr. Leatherwood was born October 17, 1921, the third child of the late Irene Sally Bludsworth Leatherwood and Thomas Harrison Leatherwood. He moved to Dale County at an early age, where he was a long-time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He retired from his service in the United States Air National Guard and worked with various civilian maintenance contractors at Fort Rucker for 31 years, retiring in 1986. Mr. Leatherwood was currently working with Wal-Mart in Ozark as a greeter, where he enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone there; he never met a stranger. He made many friends throughout his lifetime and had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be remembered for his quick wit and jovial personality. He loved entertaining friends and family with a joke and dance to his own tune. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and especially family gatherings. He will be missed by his many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Vernon Leatherwood, and one brother, Donald Ray Leatherwood. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mable Leatherwood, Ozark, two daughters, Anita Griffith, Daphne, Alabama, and Dawn Bradshaw and her husband, Vann, Geneva, Alabama, two sons, David Leatherwood and his wife, Libby, Ozark, and Colon Leatherwood and his wife, Becky, Ozark, two sisters, Mattie Earle Bruner, Ozark, and Hazel Free, Daytona, Florida, five brothers, Aubrey Leatherwood and his wife, Kathleen, Ozark, Max Leatherwood, Ozark, Roy Leatherwood, Ozark, Kenneth Leatherwood, Conyers, Georgia, and Charles Leatherwood, Dublin, Georgia. Twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 246 Church Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360. Service Information
