Obituary of James Martin Cook

Mr. James Martin Cook, age 88, of Skipperville, died Thursday evening, October 19, 2006, in Flowers Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Sunday, October 22, 2006, from Bethel United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Billy D. Gaither and Reverend Bennie Corbin officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Mr. Cook's body will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Sunday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 P. M. until 6:00 P. M. Saturday afternoon. Mr. Cook was born April 22, 1918 in Henry County to the late Mellie and William D. Cook. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater, and then worked with Civil Service until his retirement. Following his retirement, he and his wife worked with G. W. Long School. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cook was preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy Marie Cook and Shirley Ann Cook. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Watson Cook of Skipperville, three sons, James Douglas Cook and his wife, Clara of Peniel, Donald Gilbert Cook and his wife, Linda of Dothan, Tommy Ray Cook and his wife, Kathy of Peniel, one brother, Bill (Junior) Cook of Midland City, five sisters-in-law, Yvonne Barns of Echo, Eunice Hall of Abbeville, Jan Mansfield of Cowarts, Margaret Corbin of Midland City, and Doris Puritt of Perry, Florida, two brothers-in-law, Robert Watson of Ozark, and Haywood Watson of Echo. Three grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in his memory to Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Janet Brooks, 7300 East County Road 36, Ozark, Alabama 36360. Serving as pallbearers will be: Andrew Cook, David Cook, Bobby Hider, Paul Evans, Mike Corbin, Tracy Cook, John Ross, Dale Walker, and Larry Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be: Ronnie Jackson, Phillip Parker, Donnie Bynum, Mike Kovach, Braxton Bell, Max Dasinger, J. D. Strickland, Lanier Strickland, Tilman Baine, Edward Hall, Terry Jackson, Earl Cook, Mike Evans, Mitch Evans, Lavon Kelly, and Tony Baxley. Service Information
