Obituary of Ray Newman

Mr. Ray Newman, age 82, of Skipperville, died Sunday, February 14, 2010, in Opelika. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Thursday, February 18, 2010, from Skipperville United Methodist Church with Reverend Freddie McCain officiating. Interment will follow in Bersheba Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Mr. Newman's body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Thursday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Wednesday. Mr. Newman was born in April 2, 1927 in Enterprise, Alabama to the late Roy Stanmore and Minnie Lee Newman. He enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1945 and served with the 18th Infantry, 1st Division in Europe during World War II until June 1947. Following his military service, he began a lifelong career with Alabama Power Company where he proudly worked for 40 years, retiring as a supervisor. Mr. Newman was a member of Skipperville United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years Mary Helen Payne Newman, as well as an infant son, Keith Newman. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Pam Newman of Montgomery, Mark and Priscilla Newman of Tallassee, Roy and Angie Newman of Auburn; four special grandchildren, Sarah Catherine Newman, William Newman, Wyatt Newman, and Payne Newman.
