Mr. Edgar Odell Smith, 84, of Midland City, Alabama, died late Wednesday evening, July 6, 2016, at his home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 9, 2016, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Andy Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Newton City Cemetery with Full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P. M.
Mr. Smith was born July 13, 1931 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Claudie D. Smith and Melba Maryland Herndon Smith. He served in the United States Navy for three years and in the United States Army for seventeen years until his retirement in 1971. Following his military service, Mr. Smith was a school teacher in both high school and junior college classes. He owned and operated various businesses and enjoyed restoring antique cars.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Margaret Louise Dockery Smith of Midland City, Alabama; two daughters and one son-in-law, Patti and Greg Crosslin of Destin, Florida, Sandi Henderson of Midland City, Alabama; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Terri Smith of Lebanon, Illinois. Seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive.
