I first met Harry in Dak To, Vietnam. He was my platoon leader, a fine man and a good leader. He led from the front and was always willing to go the extra mile for the mission. I remember him saying " this isn't a very good war, but it's the only one we've got." I lost touch with Harry when I left the service but, years later, I saw his name in the Retired MP Officers magazine. I contacted him and we had some great back and forth by email. I'm sorry we never got to hook up again. It would have been great to see my friend again. May he Rest in Peace - he deserves it.

Major Potts was a wonderful man and a great mentor to me. I truly did not know what to expect that first day in JROTC, but he and Sgt. Major ran a great program and inspired many of us students through the years. I do not know where I would be today had I not had the privilege of knowing Major Potts. I will never forget him.
I never met you, Mrs. Potts, but I felt I knew you as he spoke of you all the time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My deepest condolences to the Potts family. I was shocked to learn of his passing today. Although I was not in JROTC, he made sure I had the opportunity to listen to an Army ROTC scholarship briefing. I never considered being in the Army before then, but decided to apply for the scholarship. I was awarded a 4 year scholarship which allowed me to attend college debt free. I went on to serve over 26 years in the Army and retired in 2021. I owe Major Potts a huge debt of gratitude for being a catalyst in my life. He was awesome, funny, caring and a positive influence in the lives of so many. You will be missed Old Soldier.

Major Potts was a tremendous asset to all of us at PCHS. So professional but never too busy to be a friend. After reading about his service I was struck by his lack of self promotion. His humility was evident in all that he did with maybe the exception of his fishing skills. We had fabulous fish fries at school. Harry you were one of the good ones and will be missed.

My condolences to the family of Major Potts. Major Potts inspired me and mentored to enlist in the U.S Army. As a JROTC cadet at Pike County High his leadership and mentorship pathed my path to a succesful military career. I am deeply honored for the time and life lessons he shared with me. I will see you at Fiddlers Green, again my condolences to the family

There is nothing I could say that would cover all the great memories I have of Harry and us fishing and him bringing me great rods and teaching me how to throw a bait caster. We had some great times over the years from cooking together at Methodist Men's Club to fishing in my pond. Harry was a great man, Husband, Father and Grandfather along with being a loving Uncle. May Harry's soul rest with our Heavenly Father our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We thank God for the life of Harry Edward Potts, Jr.

First, condolences to the entire Potts family. I'm located in Huntsville, Alabama and I just received word about my instructor/mentor/friend. Major Potts, was my JROTC instructor at PCHS in 1991, when I graduated as his student/cadet commander. His mentorship set the course for my future. Because of him, I became the first student employee (after school custodian) while in high school. Because of him, I attended Alabama Aviation Tech College (same program as his late son). Because of him, I too retired from the military at the rank of Major. Sir, thank you for your service, mentorship and friendship! Your legacy changed the lives of many and will be dearly missed. #RIP
God Bless,

Harry was a Vietnam war hero and a wonderful friend. The world would be a better place if we had more like him. He received many honors and awards on this earth, but none compare to what he received at 7:00 A.M. on December 13, 2022 when he met his Master. Though we are heartbroken at his passing, we can rejoice that he is no longer suffering and is in his heavenly home. I send my condolences to Elaine, their family and many friends.
