I have fond memories of "Mama Noche" as a Spanish and history teacher at CHS. She was great!

Me. Knight, was my favorite teacher of all time. I was blessed to have her as my Spanish teacher for three years and homeroom teacher my senior year. She treated me like a son. May God bless her family. Class of 75.

There are not enough words to describe Mrs. Knight as a teacher or mentor. She helped so many through the tough times of high school. She always made time to talk or listen. Her advice was always welcome and needed.
She will be missed in the community, the education field and with all that knew her and she taught.

Ms Knight was a joy of a teacher. She was always happy and encouraging. I never mastered her classes, but loved her.

Although I always loved all my teachers, Mrs. Knight was one of my favorite high school teachers. I took three years of Spanish with her in the late 1970s and also History. Mrs. Knight loved all of "her children" as she called us students. She made us all feel special. One or maybe two of our classmates (Mike Price and/or Jim Murphree) gave her the nickname of "Mama Noche", although noche is not the correct translation for "knight" but rather "night". At any rate, the name stuck, at least until we graduated. She trusted me as being translator for the day for a visitor from Venezuela, and I enjoyed those annual trips with Mrs. Knight to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa to take the National Spanish Examination. Even after deciding to major in engineering, Mrs. Knight told me "Don't forget your Spanish." I never did. I subsequently married a man who spoke Spanish natively and made friendships with lots of others who spoke Spanish, while continuing to learn and immerse myself in the language and culture.
I never lost touch with Mrs. Knight, although I moved far away from Alabama in 1982 and travelled a bit. Every time I returned home for a visit, I would always call Mrs. Knight for a visit; however, a lot of times, I would miss her because she was out travelling to some exotic locale which she would tell me about later. I continued to write letters to her in Spanish throughout all these years. Although my last correspondence with her was at Christmas 2015, she has always been on my mind and I will never forget her and her Chow named Bama who guarded her house in Blue Springs.
Mrs. Knight was truly a great person and I will miss her dearly. I extend my deepest condolences especially to her children Jack and Kathy whom she adored dearly and to the rest of the family as well. God bless you all.

I fell in love with Mrs. Knight in my first class. I had her for home room, American History, and Spanish for three years. We often spoke in Spanish. I was impressed with her mastery over the Spanish language, written and verbal. I learned so much from her. I loved her humor; if you walked into her room after a bad day or experience, she had a way of making you forget and had you smiling in no time. Her wealth of knowledge was incredible. She did not impose opinions; everything she uttered was factual. She was quick witted and charming. She had class. She was one of the two Carroll High School teachers who impacted me. I've thought about her so many times over the years. My regret is that the last time we spoke she wanted me to come to Alabama to visit her with my family. I never got to go. I am so heart broken.

Jack and Kathy, I have such wonderful memories of your mother at Miss Evie's store. She was the most prim and proper lady that I have ever known. I loved her dearly, as I also have fond memories of you children. You know I lost daddy in December of last year. We were blessed with some of the most wonderful people in Blue Springs, AL. My heartfelt prayers are for your family.

Joanne, although a retired teacher of many years, took my Art History courses at Wallace Community College. She was an inspiration to both my other students (some whom she had taught earlier) and me. Joanne had a real love of learning. God's blessings to her family.

Mrs. Knight took a chance on me - despite a less than stellar GPA in my Freshman year - in 1987 and accepted me into her AP History class at Carroll High School. Before long I was working with her in Academic Decathlon, Prep Bowl, and the National Honor Society. Her recognition and confidence in me helped me turn overcome an early failure in High School and establish a track record of success.
It has been almost 30 years since that day. I still remember the lessons that Mrs. Knight (even now, I think of her that way, not Joanne) and think of the times spent in her classes often. I always user her as an example of what a teacher who really cares can do for a student - relating the story of how she used her own money to provide copies of the American Pageant to our AP American History class when the school board wouldn't because she believed it the best book to be used. In my mind I can still hear her voice and her words when she called to give me my score on the AP exam. I will always remember Mrs. Knight as a teacher, a mentor, and a friend.
For her family - I can only offer my deepest condolences. I hope that in some way, knowing that the many lives Mrs. Knight touched are remembering her and keeping her with us in many small ways.

Mrs. Knight was such an encourager and was my favorite teacher in high school. She helped me in so many ways and I will never forget what an impact she had on my life. She has touched so many over the years right up until the end. My hope and prayer is that I can finish well like Mrs. Joanne. She loved the Lord and she finished well.

Mrs. Knight was my Spanish teacher for three years at Carroll High School and was without a doubt my favorite teacher. She had a quick wit, a positive spirit and a great personality. She knew her craft, loved people and loved teaching which was clearly evident to all. She often accentuated her teaching style with a whimsical saying or proverb.
It has been about 39 years since I graduated from Carroll High and over the years I have occasionally thought about Mrs. Knight and would often visualize her smiling look of approval. She was one-of-a-kind and teachers like her are rare. She will be missed by all.
