Mr. John F. Metzger, Jr., age 65, of Ozark, died Tuesday afternoon, May 16, 2006 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Friday, May 19, 2006 in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Hospice Chaplain Charles Goldsmith officiating, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Thursday evening. Mr. Metzger was born January 23, 1941 in Flint, Michigan to the late John Francis and Louise Grembouitz Metzger. He was a member of the Class of 1958 at Sacred Heart High School in Flint, Michigan. He served in the United States Navy until his retirement with seven tours in Vietnam. Mr. Metzger was assigned to NASA Apollo Space Missions on the Ticonderoga. He was a member of the Daleville V. F. W. and the Dothan American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Joan DeBoer Metzger of Ozark, four daughters, Debbie (Neph) Draper and her husband, Ted of Lapeer, Michigan, Patricia Thompson of Romulus, Michigan, Yvonne Pimentel and her husband, Luis of North Pole, Alaska, and Denise Esterline of Flint, Michigan, four sons, Joseph Metzger and his wife, Shawn of Lapeer, Michigan, David DeLoy and his wife, Linda of Washington, Michigan, Douglas DeLoy and his wife, Kim of Phenix City, Alabama, and Daniel DeLoy and his wife, Rhonda of Oxford, Michigan, three sisters, Pat Walsh of De Moines, Iowa, Barbara Wendt of Davison, Michigan, and Jean Rescavage of Palm Coast, Florida. Twenty-five grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to Wiregrass Hospice, 1970 East Andrews Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
