Obituary of Ernest Edmond Lavender

Mr. Ernest Lavender, 86, of Ariton, died Friday evening, October 29, 2004, at his home following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Sunday, October 31, 2004, at Salem Baptist Church with Reverend Harold Peters officiating. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Saturday evening. Mr. Lavender will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service time on Sunday. Mr. Lavender was born April 27, 1918, in Barbour County to the late Frances Phillips Lavender and Thomas Jefferson Lavender. He remained a lifetime resident of Barbour County where he farmed and enjoyed gardening. He worked at Fort Rucker as an aircraft mechanic with various maintenance contractors for 33 years, retiring in 1990. Mr. Lavender was a member and Deacon of Salem Baptist Church, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Linda Lavender Hoar, two sons-in-law, Wendell Wynn and James L. Doster, seven sisters, Allie Pearl Helms, Fannie Graves, Lillie Mae Morton, Ester Davis, Inez Fuqua, Gladys Hamlin, and Mary Britton, two brothers, Milton Lavender and James Patterson Lavender. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Myrtis Hagler Lavender, Ariton, three daughters, Martha Lavender Wynn, Sara Lavender Doster, Ariton, and Vickie Lavender Thompson and her husband, Roger, Ozark, one son-in law, Jerry Hoar and his wife, Inez, six grandchildren, Mark Wynn, Gary Doster, Brad Thompson, Angela Thompson, Terri Lewis, and Wayne Hoar, three great grandchildren, Brittney Wynn, Wesley Wynn, and Lindie Lewis. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Salem Cemetery Fund, C/O Mr. Don Johnson, 80008 County Road 33, Skipperville, Alabama 36374.
